Tasty Snack

During our last night at the Marco Island we went for a looong walk on the beach in hopes to get some sunset pictures. Sunset was pretty much a nonevent that evening, but the combination of low level clouds and the ocean produced some pretty cool effects, you can see it in this photo I posted couple weeks ago “Where the Sky and the Ocean Becomes One”. That photo was taken actually after sun went down, about 30-40 minutes after I took this photo. We saw him eating the fish from far a away with some folks lurking around taking pictures and observing him. He didn’t really care. He just went about his eating business like no one was around. Not that the fish is big, he could just pick it up and fly away, but maybe it was a bit tastier right there next to the water. I’m glad he decided to stay there and allow to take some photos, but tell you what, he did not stay still for a second. This eagle was all about eating that fish and getting a good photo without spooking him off was a bit of a challenge.

Key West Sunset

This was taken day or two before Christmas from the balcony of our hotel. Not a bad view. It was so windy during that week, not fun to be on the shore at all, the palm trees were moving like crazy, swinging in all directions.

Eclipse

We were on our way down to Key West, about half way into the Florida Keys, maybe around 9AM, when we came to this little nature area with board walk and little beach. On the way back to the car I saw this bird, which probably called Egret, seating on the tree. I took a few pictures from some distance and slowly advanced toward the tree, and at one point saw this interesting opportunity to take a photo with bird blocking the sun – total bird eclipse. Processing this photo was not the easiest thing, I tried Photomatix and it produced pretty bad results. Ended up using PS5 HDR merge to get it look most natural, the way I remember it. Paradise Fountain

The Marriott Resort on the Marco Island is pretty up there on the scale and folks staying at that place seam to think of themselves a lot too, everyone is super dressed and pampered. Like some kind of yappy crowd from the north hiding from the cold. Don’t get me wrong, that is just fine how they dressed, but for simple guy like me it is a bit too much because I’ll just put on basic comfy shorts or comfortable pair of jeans, walk around there and feel just fine, no reason to super dress for anyone.

So the front entrance to this place has a U turn type of drive up the hill and most folks arriving by car (well all of them) drive up to the front door and let their car to be valet parked. The parking is right across the street and I don’t mind to park my car myself and save on the valet parking. By doing so I actually had a chance to check out the front of the hotel landscaping, which is very nice, it is occupying that whole empty space in the U drive and if you never venture out from the hotel you’ll never even see it. One evening we came back late after dinner and I could not resist but pull my camera out and get a few shots. The red fountain is actually changes colors and goes up and down. Pretty cool, huh?

Fresh Tracks

Almost every morning big tractor plows the beach to get it ready for all those sunbathers. If you get up early enough you can enjoy the “fresh tracks”, almost like at the ski resort. Click on the image to see it in my photo gallery.
