Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Last night we watched “Chasing Mavericks” and it made me think about California coastline. This photo is not exactly the same area where they do a lot of surfing, but it made think about this spot as I watched the movie. We stopped here during the bright sunny day, not the best time for photography, but when you have only one day to cover a lot of places it is hard to be picky. There were quite a few people on the short trail that takes from the parking to this view and even during the day there were a few folks with serious cameras.

Bixby Bridge #2

Back in March I shared the first Bixby Bridge image that I took last year on our short trip to Big Sur. It felt like a good time to come up with the second image. Almost the same view, just a bit farther from it. HW 1 is full of photo opportunities and we tried to take advantage of most of them.

Bixby Bridge

All right, one more this week, had to make it seven in the row. Three from the East coast, one in the middle and three from the West coast. I just processed a few photos I took last year while driving on HW1, all of the Bixby Bridge, from different angles and I’ll share them over time, not at once… that would be too quick… it took me one year to get to them to process after all, can’t just put it out in one post.

This is probably one of the most common views of the bridge and the reason to it is because parking lot is right above me. There is a little hike that takes you a bit down to see the bridge from this angle and pretty much everyone who stops at the bridge comes down this way and take their photos. You can also cross the street to the left, walk up a little dirt road and take photos of the bridge with the ocean in the background. I went there but didn’t see anyone else following me, and that photo is probably going to be next in my little Bixby Bridge photo series.

Big Sur is a beautiful place and I wish I had better access to it to take more shots like this during different times of the year and weather, not easy task while living on the East coast.

Sycamore Canyon

Today I’m going follow up with another image from the Big Sur. We were driving up the Sycamore Canyon road from the Pfeiffer beach and about one mile from the ocean saw this idyllic scene with full moon and couple horses hanging out there eating some grass. Of course I had to stop and see if I could immortalize it. Smile

Travel Photography Tools

When you go to new destinations do you use any type of tools to see where are the most interesting photography spots or you just go there and hope to see it and discover it on your own? Travel books are great, but they usually don’t tell you where to go to take sunrise, sunset or other interesting photos. I’ve been using Flickr to see geo-tagged photos but find it not very user friendly. What about you?

Dream House

All I can say about Big Sur is that I’ll try to make sure to visit it again and I’ll recommend it to anyone else. Stunning place with stunning views. We drove south from the Pacific Grove down HW 1 to Big Sur and probably had to stop every five minutes to look at the awesome views the nature presented to us. On one of those stops I spotted unassuming house seating on the cliff and wondered what it would be to live there (mind you it probably cost only about somewhere under twenty million). Every night see some beautiful sunsets, watch whales doing their migrations, seals and otters, listen to crashing waves way below and just be part of this environment.

One can dream.
