Friday Mystery Photo

Happy Friday everyone! Today we are going to visit somewhere in Asia, but you my dear visitors have to tell where it is. This is not an easy one. Nothing famous. Not anywhere famous. There were no tourists there at all, just about dozen cows eating grass and looking at me, the stranger who came across this place.

I can tell you that it is on the small island and you can see the water from the front entrance, with fishermen throwing nets, hoping to catch something for dinner.

Weekend Update: Nobody got it. Nobody did. Maybe next time. Silk Island.

Shopping for Dinner

My first night in Phnom Penh, a few hours after arrival, I was walking narrow streets near the river and walked into this night market, full with all kind of produce and busy shoppers, probably trying to find some tasty ingredients for good Khmer food. Cambodia is not known for great food, like its neighbors (Thailand and Vietnam), but I had many tasty fish soups there and would love to eat it again.

Phnom Penh Street

I walked a lot while visiting Phnom Penh, trying to absorb everything around me at a slow pace. Can’t remember where exactly I took this photo, somewhere on my way to the Russian Market, about 10 blocks north of it.

Anime Girl

Last year while in Cambodia I ran into this girl and her local entourage. Supposedly she is very famous in Asia. My daughter looked her up, she is from South Korea, sounds like she was doing some kind of tour there during Halloween. Maybe she was not so famous anymore, seems like it would be a big night for Anime folks, the Halloween night, and she was not somewhere in more lucrative markets. But I don’t know anything about it.

She was constantly smiling and was giving V sign. Like a doll. Porcelain face, no wrinkles or any other emotions. Just smiling and bowing to everyone around, and showing that V sign.

I never ran into anything like this in US, so it was a first one.

Life on Sab River

This is the same family as in the video above. I shared this photo about one month ago. It was really interesting to observe them for a few minutes from the banks of Sab River in Phnom Penh. Can’t say I can relate to their life in any possible way. Other then, working for my own food every day, as they do, just very differently.

These are other boat families who appear to be living right on the river.
