Where is He From?

For the most part I can fairly easy distinguish between different nationalities, even before they open their mouth and say something – then it is obvious give away. But I think it requires some level of world travel and some observation skills. How about you? Can you look at someone and say that it is an American, European (what country), Chinese, Korean, Japanese or from one of the Southeast Asian countries?

With this guy it is not so obvious. Picture is taken in China, but it does not mean that he is actually Han. He could be North Korean (highly unlikely, but not South, that’s for sure), he could be Han from the South China or he might even be from one of the Southeast countries, like Vietnam. Will really never know.

Happy visitors at Great Wall

This summer we spent a few hours hiking around Badaling potion of the Great Wall. While there I tried to get a few people photos. I took random photos of random people. Some were posing for another photo, some were just walking around and didn’t pose for any photos and some were in their own dream world and didn’t care what is happening around them. Turns out that it is not as easy to take such photos as you’d think, even with thousands of people swarming around you, they are either not interesting looking, they are not in right angle, or I’m just not fast enough to point my camera at the right time and press the shutter. I managed to get a few of them though that are not that bad. Here is one of them.

International Grand Bazaar

During our short visit to Urumqi we visited International Grand Bazaar, this where I took the photo of all those cool knifes. In the middle of this place is one of the main architectural attractions, this huge tower. I was taking photos of it with wide angle lens and had to get really down to the ground to take the whole thing into the frame. Locals were looking at me like I was crazy. Also, on a couple shots I was including my wife and daughter with the entire tower, bending down, I guess I did look a little crazy. But, hey, you do what you got to do. Otherwise we have no memories.

Smelly Sticks

Following up on my last night post with one of the smelly sticks photos. They burn very slow, with some smoke coming off them and have one of those mysterious smells. There are also burning candles around (not pictured), so maybe the smell from candles mixes up with this smell and produce this interesting flavor.
