Shadows

We were walking around Charleston historic district when we passed this light. I thought the shadow and the light fixture had pretty cool effect. Sometimes walking random streets and keeping your eyes open can lead to some cool shots. I have no idea where exactly I took it, but I’m sure that this light fixture on this wall, with this shadow is one of a kind.

This is HDR from a single capture. I like how HDR brings out all the textures on the stucco wall and made it really more dynamic. With most of my single shots I try to process them straight in CS5 as well, without HDR, and compare look and feel of them. Sometimes straight processing wins hands down, sometimes HDR is better. In this situation HDR processing was so much more interesting and reminded me of the actual place.

Exploring Charleston

For anyone who does not like to walk a lot or travel with small kids and want to see more of historic Charleston will find horse carriage tours very useful. I took one with my daughter a few years back and it was a cool way to see this beautiful holy city. Most tours depart from the Market street. From my observation Charleston probably has at least 3-4 different companies providing this service, some with smaller and more intimate setting, some much bigger. Another interesting part is that there are a few different routes that this carriage can take, some are more interesting than others, but it is not up to he carriage driver to decide which one to take. Before departure they have to go through a little check out booth, where City appointed person will tell them which route they have to take. There are a lot of carriages and they don’t want to send all of them to the same route. So it is a bit of a lottery for all the riders on what they are going to see on their specific trip.

Here is one of the carriages passing by me on a nice bright sunny day. Do you think those kids paying attention to anything their guide talks about or they are more interested in what happens on the street, ie some guy crouching down and doing something odd with a three legged eye glass?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you all! Thanks for stopping by last year and I hope you’ll be coming back this year! Hopefully we will see some cool new and old places and all of our resolutions come true! Smile

Couple nights ago we ate dinner at the Noisy Oyster in Charleston SC. This place is located on the corner of East Bay street and Market street and it is nothing to look at from outside. Very kind of blah corner building, especially with all of their windows closed for the winter season. But you go in and it is a very different story, I tried to capture it from my seat, see it for yourself.

S.N.O.B.

It is a cool name, isn’t it, SNOB. Sounds like a nice place to have a dinner. It definitely looked cool in late evening and fairly photogenic. I’m usually not into fine dining when traveling, don’t have right attire and usually don’t want to spend a lot, but this place, according to their web site is super cool and prices are not so high. Hmm, maybe next time in Charleston I’ll actually go in and taste their food.

I’m counting days, no wait, hours till vacation, just  couple days, 16 hours and off for couple weeks. I’m sure most you folks who take some time off at the end of December are anxious to get there as well. I’m going to try and go back to Charleston for couple days. Eat some oysters and hopefully see some fireworks.

This is where Market street starts, it is a market, with all kind of crafts, arts and many other goodies.
