Grand Prismatic

This was probably one of the coolest hot springs in the Yellowstone National Park. There are many others, but none are this big, colorful and have sweet observation points from the near by hills. There is a boardwalk around it if you want to get a close look, and probably 99% of the tourists do just that and then move on to other hot springs or geysers. I knew that there is a way to see it from above, so we found another parking area with trailhead that takes you along the river, where at one point you can climb up the hill to get a better view of the Grand Prismatic. The hike up the hill is not the easiest one, it goes up, almost vertically, with switch backs, across fallen pine trees and dusty soft grey dirt. From the spot where I took this photo there were no one else but us, pretty much everyone else turned around somewhere way below. Their loss.

We had some snacks, enjoyed the view, while shooting out once in a while: “Bear, Bear”. It was grizzly season and mother with a few cubs was sighted just a few days ago in this area.

As always, all of my photos are better looking at high resolution – all you have to do is click on it and it will open in my photo gallery.

Friday Mystery Photo

This is another place I’d rather be right now than seating at the airport and typing this. We took a double kayak out for half a day as well and had really nice time exploring different parts of the lake. Next time I’d like to have enough time to hike in those mountains as well, not just seeing them from the distance.

Since this is Friday, as usual, the location is not disclosed till sometime later. Anyone know where it is?

Weekend Update: Thanks all for nice comments and for your suggestions on where it is. Avian101 and mithriluna got the overall place, but kristineskis got it right on the spot. This is actually taken at the Colter Bay on Jackson Lake. There is a nice little marina with a few nice boats and you can rent kayaks and canoes to take on the lake and explore its shoreline.

Summer Flowers

Last post was with some Spring flowers, today I decided to follow up with Summer flowers.

I took this photo off HW89 before coming into Afton, WY. Beautiful part of the country for sure.

Friday Mystery Photo

Today we have two mystery photos, both from the same place, so if you have seen one you probably seen another. Also, I’d suspect that none of my female visitors will know where it was taken, it is just not the type of place you usually find females, as you can see the paintings really designed for guys.

Any takers?

Saturday Update: Well, as I suspected no one knew where it is, and not many attempts to even guess where it is, except to azleader who rightly identified that it is in the men’s room. So, you want to know where it is?

These lovely walls, and there are a few other paintings that I didn’t have a chance to snap, are located in the “Thai Me Up” restaurant and macro brewery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Great food and good beer if you care for one. So guys, if you ever happen to be in Jackson Hole, hit this place up for some good food/beer and when time comes to hit the room, you’ll be surrounded by these exotic ladies. Unfortunately, the females room doesn’t have the same effect. I told my wife what I saw and she had to go check out the other room. Nothing like that.

Good Morning

At the end of our two week vacation we decided to spend two more days in Grand Teton National Park. On one of the days we got up super early to see if he can catch a nice sunrise and went for a little hike on the hill. As I was walking through the thick brush I noticed some fur between the sticks and at first I thought that it was a deer, getting some rest, but after a slow approach it happen to be a sleeping red fox.

He saw me but at first didn’t really care that I was there. I have never seen red fox in such close proximity and didn’t know what to expect, I thought that he would jump and run away. He didn’t. This little guy probably hang out there for at least 4-5 minutes, glancing at me ones in a while, but otherwise he just continued to get his snoozing. During that time I was able to switch lens on my camera and get super zoom and take this shot at 400mm, making it super awesome high resolution shot.
