RoadKill Cafe

I like to have my wife on my vacations… not only for many other obvious reasons, but she likes to do some research about our destinations and always suggests places we should stop and see. Like in this case I’d probably never stop at the Roadkill Café if it was not for her. She knew about this place and as we took historic HW66 drive we found this place to have lunch. Their bison burger sucked big time, not something I would order again if I ever had a chance to eat there, but the decorations of this place compensated for not so tasty burger. Check it for your self, what was in front of us during our lunch.

Oh, and as for the folks there, it is not us. I think they were Europeans, travel bloggers or something like that, as they spent entire time looking at their photos and doing something with them. I guessed that she was Czech, and guy looked like our friend Patrick who is Lebanese, but this one probably not. But who really cares.

From Flagstaff to Sedona

Yesterday I mentioned that drive on HW89 from Flagstaff to Sedona is very scenic. Most of the scenery is really starting from this point and down. Right now we are still almost at Flagstaff level, fairly high altitude, but things are about to change fairly quickly. First you’ll descent down this serpentine road into the canyon and over the next 10+ miles everything will dramatically change. No more snow and the picturesque mountains  around Sedona will present themselves in all their glory.

Levitation

Drive from Flagstaff Arizona to Sedona is very scenic and provides many photo opportunities. In many places you can just pull to the side of the road, jump out and take a few photos. Sometimes you have to do a bit of hiking to get different view than most travelers will get from the curb.

Like in this instance we hiked for about 5 minutes away and this scene opened up. The most extraordinary part was witnessing the sheet of ice levitating above the water, I was just in time to take a photo of it. I bet it was one of those Sedona super bursts of special earth energy that made it happen. Too bad none of the Sedona many residents have seen this, otherwise it would probably be the new place for them to gather for some earth healing sessions of their bodies and souls.

Hoover Damn

I took this photo from the HW93 bridge over the Colorado river. Sometime in the future I’ll share photo or two from the opposite direction, with the bridge as it is seen from the Hoover Damn. I’m not sure in what state I was as I took this panorama, could be Nevada or it could be Arizona, or who knows, maybe by some wild chance my right foot was in Arizona and left in Nevada.

This is a panorama. Yes, even though it doesn’t look very wide, it is actually three photos stitched together to make this view. To your left edge are the rails of the bridge and to the right edge are the rails as well, well, they are just a few inches away and not in the shot. Most people take panoramas with holding camera in normal horizontal condition, but the trick to get wide angle panoramas and not to bend it all like crazy is to turn your camera vertically, like shooting in portrait mode and get your panorama shots that way. You’ll have to take a few more photos to cover the desired area, but then you’ll have more room to cut out if necessary from the top or bottom of your final shot. BTW, the original high resolution image of this photo in my photo gallery  is a whooping 8756 by 9409 pixels, 49MB file, if you click on the image you’ll be able to download XL size that I share out (for this photo it is 1117 by 1200 pixels, still pretty big). Did you know that there are a lot of people down there on the damn?

Friday Mystery Photo

Even though there were no clouds on the horizon, it was actually snowing on and off as I was walking along this canyon. Water carved its own path in this red rock with some whirl pools and flat and shallow pools. It was fairly crowded when we got there but as it started to snow most people left the area and I was able to take a few photos without anyone obstructing the beauty of this place. Where was this photo taken?
