Boston Court House

A few days back I shared with you “Ghosts are Sailing to Boston” photo, showing Boston downtown. While looking at downtown from the same spot and turning to your left you’ll see this building. US Federal Court House, I believe specializing in Naval affairs. If I remember it right it was designed to resemble some type of naval instrument.

Just a reminder that if you want to see this photo in higher resolution then all you have to do is to click on it. It will open in my Photo Gallery. Also, if you want to see more photos from Boston or some other interesting place then explorer Categories on the right side. Every post is categorized by the place it was taken at and you can easily navigate around it. Up to date I have almost 300 photos on this site – a lot to look at.

where the laws are passed

This is the place. I think it is, unless they do actual work in some other buildings. Listening to the news… I believe there is another deadline is coming up to which our lawmakers suppose to come with some solution, something around 1.3 trillion dollars in budget cuts. Based on the news I heard this morning they are no where near the agreement. We’ll see it in a week.

McRae Peak

The hike to and from McRae Peak is probably one of the best hikes in High Country in North Carolina. It is about one hour from the Grandfather Mountain, you have to clime up about five different wooden stairs and some of them are fairly scary. If you afraid of heights then it is probably not a hike for you. The McRae Peak is actually the stone on the right side of this photo. About 3-4 feet to the right is another wooden ladder, about 20 feet high and it allows you to clime up the peak.

It was extremely windy that day and we really didn’t spend much time on top of the rock, but on a nice day you have very nice 360 view around the high country. It is very popular place to bring your lunch snack and enjoy the view while munching on it.

Back in Seattle

It looks like I’m going back on a business trip to Seattle at the end of January & start of February. It is not the best time to catch perfect weather around those parts, but who knows, it might not rain and we might get some sun. I’ll be pretty busy but might be able to squeeze one or two evenings to go and shoot some photos, weather permitting. Any recommendations on some good areas for Seattle winter photography?

I know there is a spot from a hill in the south east Seattle with very cool view over downtown and highways. I’ll try to get there. Also, I’ve seen nice photos with beautiful views of the TV tower and the Mount Rainier. I might try to get there as well, not sure where exactly to take those photos from. It might be taken from someone’s private balconies, looking at the map, it is all neighborhoody.

This photo was taken from West Seattle, Hamilton Viewpoint park. There is actually a lot of air traffic in the air above Seattle and I had to take a few shots and time it just right between different airplanes and helichopers.

Mirror Lake

Sometimes you find things that you are not looking for and it just cuts you with surprise. A few month back we were in Oregon. We hiked for more than an hour to see Mirror Lake with reflection of the Mt Hood. We were lucky with clear skies and the view was nice, but there was a constant breeze that put some ripples across the lake, we spent almost an hour looking from couple different points and waiting for calmness. I managed to take some photos, one of them was posted here in August. A lot of effort, but in the end I didn’t get the perfect “mirror”.

This morning I went for a walk in the nearby Reynolda Park. There is a trail there and couple gravel roads. Usually I take the trail, but this morning for whatever reason I started in the wrong place and took one of the side roads. I knew where I was and went towards little ponds to get back to the trail. When I came to the pond, I approached it from an unusual access point and was treated to this awesome view of absolutely still water with amazing deep reflection of the sky and trees from the other side of the pond. The sun was at the right angle and it helped to reflect it with some amazing detail. As I was enjoying the view I thought that if I didn’t get lost and if I came to the lake from the other side, I might not see this little mirror, with it glimpse on the world above it. You can almost flip this photo 180 and you’d think that the reflection was the real thing. The cool part is that there are more details on the trees in the mirror than in its real version.

After taking this photo I hiked around the pond. No cool reflections.
