Virginia Creeper trail use to be a railway, now converted in to the bike and easy hiking/jogging path. I think it is totally runs for about thirty miles, but the most popular segment is between White Mountain and Damascus, about seventeen or so miles. It constantly cress cross a small mountain river and there are many bridges, more than thirty of them. Each one is numbered.

This dog was hanging out at this bridge, waiting for his owner or maybe he is local and just likes to see people going each way. He moved around quite a bit so we had to hang there for a few minutes before I took this one.

Farm Machinery

Not sure what purpose for this equipment, but I guess it did something. We hiked around the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Peaks of Otter and stopped by the “Johnson Farm”. I took a few pictures here, which will provide me with some material for future daily posts.

Here is what it said about the farm:

“Around 1766 Thomas Wood began the first known homestead on this property. The farm passed through several hands until John T. Johnson bought it in 1852. Johnson family descendants worked the farm continuously for nearly 90 years, during which time it became part of the flourishing Peaks of Otter community.”

Night Bike

I saw this bike at the Sheraton Roanoke parking lot. This is single exposure HDR conversion. For this type of shot I wish I had a super wide lens, to stay close and include the front wheel. BTW, you can see the photographer in at least two spots on the shiny exterior of this fine machine.

Sheraton Roanoke is nice hotel and it is only 2 stars on the Starwood’s point scale, which means it does not require a lot of Starwood points to stay there. While at the hotel I got a chance to speak a little “Jamaican”. When we arrived from Penn State, I wanted to get some beer from the bar and the only bottle choice was appealing at the time was “Red Stripe”, to a big delight of the bar tender, who happen to be Jamaican. So, we had an exchange, him – “Ya Mon, good choice Mon!”, me – “Ya Mon, Jamaican beer is good, Mon!”.

Tysons Corner Sunset

One of the largest malls in Northern Virginia (NOVA) is in front of you. With many office buildings surrounding it.
The tall building in the background on the right is Ritz Carlton hotel. It is attached to another mall – Galleria II. Galleria is usually fairly deserted due to the type of stores it has – pretty much all designer stores and other high priced joints. You are not going to see many teenagers there, it seems to be popular with well off stay home wifes and other folks who has extra $$ to spend at one their stores.
