Yesterday afternoon after I finished with my work we decided to escape the heat and go for a short (only five miles, mind you) hike in the mountains, the Boone Fork Trail. We were hoping to get some berries, they are usually get ripe in the middle to end of July, but with this Spring and Summer being so hot we thought that maybe they will be ready couple weeks earlier. They were not. Maybe another week. As I mentioned Boone Fork Trail is a five miles loop, it goes through some rolling hills and season pastures, which are full with berries and then it gets into the forestry area and goes along a small creek, which turns into much bigger mountain creek, almost like a small river. Along the way I saw this little waterfall, we decided to take a small break and take a photo of it. btw, it looks better in high resolution, just click on it.
And here a few other random photos from this hike…
Depending on which route you take it might take you between 45 minutes to 3 hours of hiking to get to this spot. It leads you to one of the highest spots in this part of the mountains. If you take my current route you have to clime at least 5 different ladders, each 20 to 30 feet long. I just stepped off one of those ladders, edged my self on the side of the cliff to take this photo, before climbing another one. Up and up.

Yesterday was a beautiful day with temperatures around 60F, which overnight changed into rain and right now it is cold and grey, weather man predicting abut 4-6 inches of snow in North Carolina mountains and potential snow at lower elevations as well. To cheer myself up I decided to post this colorful autumn photo from North Carolina mountains, where it is probably snowing at the moment.
This is Blue Ridge Parkway’s Lin Cove Viaduct, snaking around Grandfather Mountain. Enjoy!
