This is a Lin Cove bridge, obviously not the Lin Cove Viaduct bridge, but it goes over Lin Cove creek on the Lin Cove trail. If you want to go above the Viaduct you’d have to cross this little bridge.

Grey Outside? Not Here!
So it is finally pretty much grey, cold and not super exciting outdoors. All leaves are gone, colors disappeared and most places probably haven’t seen any snow yet to mix in some colors. But just month or so ago we had very different picture, just like the one we have here.
This is Lin Cove Viaduct, part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This spot is kind of in the middle of the Viaduct, not the most common or known by many folks, in fact I didn’t know about it till this Fall and I hiked around there at least half dozen times over last ten years. I wonder if any of these bushes bloom in the Spring, I need to go and check it out next April/May. Anyone have any shots of it in the Spring?
Pretty Fall
It is Monday, early evening, I’m sleepy. Mondays are always like that. Very long days with sleepy evenings. Doesn’t mean I will go to bed early, still probably not going to sleep till close to midnight, but, man I’m getting sleepy.
Anyway, I have a few more Fall pictures, which I’ll try to push out before real Winter comes around.
We are back to Linn Cove Viaduct at Blue Ridge parkway. This time we are looking south. Taken from the tip of the rock as low as I could get there to the road, but still have a long view over it.
Fall is Coming to NC High Country
But not anywhere else on the East Coast. Blue Ridge parkway is in full color, but you drive down just 10-15 minutes and it is all green, just like in the middle of the summer. No different in Virginia and as I was told, even in Boston is all still super green.
This is Lin Cove Viaduct looking north. I took this photo from a huge rock, positioned right in the middle of the Viaduct. Prior to this hike I never knew that it was possible to get on this rock. We saw some folks the day before seating on it waving at at us driving buy, so naturally we had to get on this rock as well.
The Origins of Blue in Blue Ridge Parkway
Why do you think they started to call Blue Ridge Parkway blue? Not green or orange? Well, here is the visual explanation of the origins of this name. This photo was taken in the middle of October from one of the highest peaks in NC high country, while we were hiking the Macrea’s Peak trail. You can see Blue Ridge Parkway snaking down below and the blue ridges of NC mountains in the distance. This is one of the best hikes around Blue Ridge parkway, some parts of it are very strenuous, you have to clime a few ladders, but it is all worth to see some of the best possible views you going to have in this part of the country. Go and see it for yourself.
