A few Shades of Grey

I took this one on the side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you ever had a chance to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway you’ll know that there are not too many spots where you can openly look from it and see unobstructed mountains. Trees and high brush are all over  the sides of the parkway and while in some places you have designated view points with long range views, it is rear that you can see nearby ridges without something in front of you. This was one of those few opportunities where I could take a shot and not get anything in the foreground, well, almost, if you pay attention, there is a bit you can see, I just didn’t want to crop it all out.

One interesting observation about this ridge is how many dead trees are out there. I’m not sure if they would stand out as much during summer time, when everything is green and in full foliage, but with so many shades of Autumn colors it kind of stands out.

After doing the hike we got back on the Blue Ridge Parkway and drove back to Asheville. About one or two miles south from the Graveyards Field parking area I spotted a nice view to the east and pulled over to see if I can take any shots. This is one of them, it is shown at the end of the video. Enjoy!

Yellow Creek

Continuing with Autumn photos theme, here is another one from this years’ colorful season. We were hiking around Linville Falls when I took this photo. This is somewhere half a mile or so above the falls.

Appalachian Sunset

A few weeks ago we went to Asheville and drove up Blue Ridge Parkway in hopes of getting some Autumn colors in the high country and to my dismay there were really no colors at the high altitudes. In some places we were too late, the leaves already gone, but at the higher altitudes leaves just turned brown. Not a pretty side. We were able to catch some colors at the lower levels though and I think I should have one or two photos from that drive come out soon.

This photo and the video above was taken sometime back in June, during green and buggy season.

Girl in the red shirt asked me if I’m going to post whatever I was shooting somewhere online. I told her my web site name. It took me about two month to post it. I wonder if she ever remembered the name of the site and came back time to time to check on the status of it. Probably not.
